Cesare Beccaria
"Is it not absurd, that the laws, which punish murder, should, in order to prevent murder, publicly commit murder themselves"-Cesare Beccaria ["Cesare Beccaria: Of Crimes and Punishments, Chapter 28." Cesare Beccaria: Of
Crimes and Punishments, Chapter 28. N.p., n.d. Web. 20 May 2013.]
Cesare Beccaria was against capital punishment. He believed that the state had no right to be taking peoples lives, that it was unnecessary and unuseful, and he also did not believe that capital punishment stopped people from commiting crimes. Cesare also wrote books in attempts to persuade the state to show control. In 1764 Beccaria wrote an essay called Crimes and Punishments, he was also the author of Dei deletti e delle pene. His contribution to the Age of Enlightenment, was that he proposed a new approach to justice.
Cesare was a firm believer that if the criminal justice system had order and reasoning behind it, then things could run more smoothly. He thought that if people were more worried about preventing crime instead of worrying about how to punish them after the crime was done, then maybe it would be less common. His ideas were specific and his intentions were to have a society that could live peacefully together without death and monarchy. He worried about the common people.

My Name is savannah Stanley. I created this website about Cesare Beccaria. I like to paint. I am a senior in Mrs.Bauer's World history class. The point of this project was to pick a person from the Age of Enlightenment, or Scientific Revolution, and tell why they were so important.
